Where in the world is the Walkabout Woman? (The mundane and sundry)

Hi All!

I am checking in with a post about where I am physically traipsing these days.

My walkabout  finds me with my sister Marci in  the San Joaquin Valley of Central California — in the town of Ripon. Ripon is approximately 10 miles north of Modesto, 60 miles south of Sacramento, and 90 miles east of San Francisco.

Ripon, California

The San Joaquin Valley is  blazing hot and dry in the summer. My sister and I take early morning walks to take advantage of the slightly cooler temperatures.

The area surrounding Ripon is quite nice, as it is primarily a farming area with dairies, crops of grapes and nut tree orchards.

Along with that, however, comes the faint but prevailing odor of manure and other unidentifiable pungent fumes. I think this is so familiar to the inhabitants of Ripon that they barely notice it.

I am house sitting while my sister and her husband, who are newly retired, are off on a house-hunting trip to the State of Washington in search of cooler weather and fresher air. During a collage making session Marci makes a collage of her fairy-tale town:

My jobs are simple: water the yard, feed the cat, get the mail, take out the garbage and deploy the air-conditioner. I also continue carrying out the business of my social media marketing clients on site — and journaling and making art.

Unfortunately, I get sick soon after arriving in Ripon, and I am not surprised. It took a tremendous physical and emotional effort to pack up my possessions and life in the Rogue Valley. I can usually count on my body in a crisis and to get things done, but it reliably “gives up the ghost” afterwards.

My sister very sweetly placed some flowers and pictures of our deceased parents by my bedside. This resulted in us both having dreams (and one nightmare) about our mother and father during my first nights here.

Tomorrow I head off  by way of car, then BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), then municipal bus to the Sunset  of San Francisco — where I will be reconnecting with dear old friends.

The weather is predicted to be sunny and in the low 70s.

Halleluiah!
